{"id":972,"date":"2009-08-15T21:35:34","date_gmt":"2009-08-16T04:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.talesfromthe.net\/jon\/?p=972"},"modified":"2009-08-15T21:35:34","modified_gmt":"2009-08-16T04:35:34","slug":"notes-from-underground-five-years-later-space-tribe-at-geomagnetic-tvs-psyonesis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2024.thenexus.today\/index.php\/2009\/08\/15\/notes-from-underground-five-years-later-space-tribe-at-geomagnetic-tvs-psyonesis\/","title":{"rendered":"Notes from underground: five years later (Space Tribe at Geomagnetic.tv&#8217;s Psyonesis)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/geomagnetic.tv\/events\/PSYONESIS\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3500\/3824226760_cb8286419f.jpg\" alt=\"2009-08-15_1246\" width=\"488\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As the sample Olli Wisdom started his set with phrased it, &#8220;To infinity \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and beyond!&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 [At the set&#8217;s climax] a song built around the guitar part from Dire Straits &#8220;Money for Nothing&#8221; (with a minor change in the only lyric: &#8220;I want my LSD&#8221;) had the whole crowd playing air guitar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You gotta be able to ask yourself &#8230; hey man, is this a dream?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When Olli played a song with a sample &#8220;Let&#8217;s all travel at the speed of light!&#8221;, it seemed remarkably plausible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; January 10, 2004; posted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/e-luminatus\/index.php?title=Rationality%27s_not_looking_too_good_these_days#Aug_8.2C_2004:_A_wonderful_virtuous_cycle\">on <em>e-luminatus<\/em><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Wow, that was a long time ago.<\/p>\n<p>Listening to that night&#8217;s (((thump))) on my iPod takes me back to the frame of mind I was in, just starting out on an amazing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/e-luminatus\/index.php?title=The_journey\">journey<\/a> from a technologist at Microsoft Research to a writer\/strategist\/activist workingon <a href=\"..\/?p=920\">Qworky<\/a>, Computers Freedom and Privacy, diversity.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/e-luminatus\/index.php?title=Rationality%27s_not_looking_too_good_these_days\">Rationality&#8217;s not looking too good these days<\/a> has excerpts from my journal from March 2003 to August 2004.\u00c2\u00a0 The intuitions underlying the way I view the world today are clearly there.\u00c2\u00a0 Entries like &#8220;Ideas matter&#8221;, &#8220;End duality by worshipping diversity&#8221; and &#8220;It&#8217;s all about multiplicity&#8221; are the basis for ideas and strategies developed in Project Fabulous, Ad Astra, and now Qworky.\u00c2\u00a0 From August 1, the day after Astral Projection at Barnevald:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/e-luminatus\/index.php?title=A_message\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"The limits of analysis\" src=\" http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/images\/texts.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"175\" height=\"130\" \/><\/a>The analytical approaches I&#8217;ve taken in the past just aren&#8217;t sufficient for me to understand what&#8217;s going on. I&#8217;ve learned a lot, and now know how to temper analysis with empathy and combine it with experience; at what point does it become enough to understand?<\/p>\n<p>you can be scientists in a somewhat irrational world.  you just have to think about things at another level &#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What&#8217;s striking is that I didn&#8217;t have a good language or intellectual framework for it, no understanding of asset-based thinking, positive psychology, social media, gender HCI, queer and trans theory, or complex systems.\u00c2\u00a0 Talk about ideas in their early raw form &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>At least for me, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/e-luminatus\/index.php?title=Rationality%27s_not_looking_too_good_these_days\">Rationality&#8217;s not looking too good these days<\/a> is also very raw is the emotional sense.\u00c2\u00a0 Over the last five years I&#8217;ve gotten a lot more comfortable with the limits of rationality and technology (as well as different approaches that avoid some of the traps) but it wasn&#8217;t easy at first.\u00c2\u00a0 I had never been comfortable writing about emotions, and so I&#8217;m not sure how well the words convey the intensity of the passion I felt about how much this <em>mattered <\/em>or the vulnerability I remember feeling as I moved outside my comfort zone.\u00c2\u00a0 Writing on e-luminatus and <em>Liminal States <\/em>has been remarkably liberating for me, and keeping a journal was a big first step towards that.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, I&#8217;ve met dozens of people on my journey who have helped shape how I see the world &#8230; and get me a lot more comfortable with emotions, especially the positive ones!\u00c2\u00a0 And as predicted in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.achangeiscoming.net\/e-luminatus\/index.php?title=Rationality%27s_not_looking_too_good_these_days#Aug_8.2C_2004:_A_wonderful_virtuous_cycle\">A wonderful virtuous cycle<\/a>, the vast majority of them are women.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, in most dimensions I&#8217;m hanging with a much more diverse group of people now, online and off.\u00c2\u00a0 Gotta like that \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been quite a journey so far &#8212;
