Each year the event has grown, now with hundreds of thousands of students coming together to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/dayofsilence.org\/index.cfm\">dayofsilence.org<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.glsen.org\/cgi-bin\/iowa\/all\/news\/record\/2400.html\">11-year-old Carl Walker-Hoover<\/a> took his own life last week after constant bullying, including daily taunts of being gay.\u00c2\u00a0 yet another reminder of how important this issue is to kids and anybody who cares about them.\u00c2\u00a0 This year, the National Day of Silence is Friday, April 17.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.dayofsilence.org\/2009\/04\/tweet-silence-on-april-17.html\">Tweet the silence<\/a> is a way for everybody to support the students standing up against anti-LGBT bullying &#8230; and to help create more awareness of the issue.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Things you can do on Friday:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>tweet about it, including the #dayofsilence hashtag.\u00c2\u00a0 Share some experiences, say why you think it matters, follow the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?lang=en&amp;q=dayofsilence+OR+%23dos+OR+%22day+of+silence%22&amp;rpp=50\">#dayofsilence discussions<\/a> on Twitter and retweet, or just express support.\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;re a student, parent, or teacher, share what&#8217;s happening at your school.\u00c2\u00a0 and so on.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I tweeted to start with:<br \/>\n<blockquote><p><em>Tweet the silence!
