I wonder why it&#8217;s so hard for some people to accept that (1) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quora.com\/How-did-Jon-Pincus-oppression-theory-project-at-Microsoft-go\">I know what strategy is<\/a>, (2) I&#8217;ve been treating Twitter as a strategy, and (3) it&#8217;s working?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Update, April 2017:<\/span> This has held up pretty well!\u00a0 I fixed some typos and links<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>Too often, Twitter is the enemy of complex thought, not its friend.\u00a0 \u201d if you&#8217;re on Twitter yourself, look at your last few weeks&#8217; posts and see what fraction of your potential mental capability they actually express. We can do this. <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23gov20\">#gov20<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23opengov\">#opengov<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23p2\">#p2<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"msg\" style=\"text-align: right;\"><span class=\"msgtxt en\">&#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/adrielhampton\/statuses\/1375435166\">Adriel Hampton<\/a> on Twitter<br \/>\n<\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Somebody&#8217;s missing what&#8217;s going on here and I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s Adriel.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Adriel&#8217;s such an outsider in the campaign for Ellen Tauscher&#8217;s congressional seat that he isn&#8217;t even mentioned in\u00a0 in Steven Luo&#8217;s detailed roundup in <a href=\"http:\/\/californiabeat.wordpress.com\/2009\/03\/30\/race-for-rare-open-bay-area-congressional-seat-heats-up\/\">Race for rare open Bay Area Congressional seat heats up<\/a> in <em>California Beat<\/em>.\u00a0 After he announced his campaign on Twitter, though, there were articles in <a href=\"http:\/\/news.google.com\/news\/url?sa=t&amp;ct2=us%2F0_0_s_4_1_aa&amp;usg=AFQjCNEBJbxovRHVoWReA-oyrbH2-QFUhw&amp;cid=1319470982&amp;ei=XdnUSeiBAo2ohAPk-aOdAg&amp;rt=SEARCH&amp;vm=STANDARD&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politico.com%2Fblogs%2Fscorecard%2F0309%2FAnnouncing_a_campaign_on_Twitter.html%3Fshowall\"><em>Politico<\/em><\/a>, National Journal&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com\/archives\/2009\/03\/word_on_the_twe_17.php\"><em>Hotline On Call<\/em><\/a>, , and the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.google.com\/news\/url?sa=t&amp;ct2=us%2F0_0_s_4_2_aa&amp;usg=AFQjCNEfo01sbViqo67jXpZJv3mgS7WSKg&amp;cid=1319470982&amp;ei=XdnUSeiBAo2ohAPk-aOdAg&amp;rt=SEARCH&amp;vm=STANDARD&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sacbee.com%2Fstatic%2Fweblogs%2Fcapitolalertlatest%2F020956.html\"><em>Sacramento Bee<\/em><\/a>.\u00a0 And it&#8217;s not just about the buzz.\u00a0 From Evan McMorris-Santoro&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com\/archives\/2009\/03\/word_on_the_twe_17.php\">Word On The Tweet: Raising Money, Tweet By Tweet<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;This is about digital accessibility,&#8221; he said when asked why he chose Twitter. &#8220;It&#8217;s a way to regularly communicate wih the thousands of people we are supposed to represent. &#8230; My plan is touch many people electronically during the day but still be able to hug my kids every night.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;ll talk more about Adriel&#8217;s longshot campaign in the upcoming &#8220;Skittles for Congress&#8221;. He&#8217;s far from the only one who sees Twitter as a strategy, though.\u00a0 Over the last eight months #dontgo, Twitter Vote Report, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talesfromthe.net\/jon\/?p=279\">Motrin Moms<\/a>, #tcot, and #taxcuts have all gotten high-profile media coverage.*\u00a0 Brian Carter&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.searchenginepeople.com\/blog\/twitter-tips-for-charities-and-non-profits-3-case-studies.html\">Twitter for Charities and Non-Profits: 3 Case Studies + Tips<\/a> on <em>Search Engine People <\/em>has a few more examples of Twitter as a strategy: Tweetsgiving, One Day for Human Rights, and 12Kfor12K.\u00a0 There are solid numbers and some excellent suggestions.\u00a0 From the UK, <a href=\"http:\/\/justgiving.wordpress.com\/2009\/03\/06\/twitter-justgiving-and-fundraising-an-introduction\/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=nl_fr_mar09\">Justgiving&#8217;s excellent description of their Twitter strategy<\/a> discusses how it fits into their overall plans.<\/p>\n<p>More recently in <a href=\"http:\/\/exceptionmag.com\/life\/technology\/000341\/strategy-progressives-twitter-p2-progressives-20\">The #p2 Hashtag and Strategies for Progressives on Twitter<\/a>, Tracy Viselli and I proposed three explicitly Twitter-based strategies including using Twitter as a base for &#8220;flash actions&#8221; and a place to engage with communities currently marginalized by the progressive blogosphere.\u00c2\u00a0 In <em>Ask the President<\/em>&#8216;s recent project, <a href=\"http:\/\/p2pt0.wikifoundry.com\/page\/Twitter+activism%2C+%23p2%2C+and+Ask+the+President\">Twitter based activism was effective<\/a> both for the voting (at the communityCOUNTS site) and the results that really matter: <a href=\"http:\/\/p2pt0.wikifoundry.com\/page\/Twitter+activism%2C+%23p2%2C+and+Ask+the+President\">responses from President Obama on WhiteHouse.gov<\/a> for some questions that don&#8217;t get a lot of attention from the traditional media or the progressive blogosphere, connections with journalists on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>And as I write this, watching the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23g20\">#G20 Twitter feed<\/a> for info about what&#8217;s happening in London, the US Trade representative is about to give a briefing to the 50 G20 Voice bloggers.\u00c2\u00a0 @G20Voice just sent out a request for questions, and <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23g20voice\">the links on #G20Voice<\/a> give enough info that I &#8212; or anybody else &#8212; can make some suggestions or give feedback on others ideas.\u00c2\u00a0 Links point me &#8212; and everybody else &#8212; to the summit communique, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.switchnewmedia.com\/clients\/G20Voice\/live.htm\">live video stream<\/a>, Oxfam&#8217;s statement, <span id=\"msgtxt1439242874\" class=\"msgtxt es\"><a href=\"http:\/\/curvaspoliticas.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">http:\/\/curvaspoliticas.blogspot.com\/<\/a><\/span><span class=\"msgtxt es\"> &#8230; and information about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wdm.org.uk\/news\/no10bansWDM01042009.htm\">the two anti-poverty NGOs whose credentials were withdrawn at the last moment<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"msgtxt es\">I wonder what the US Trade Representative thinks of that?\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe I can find out.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wake up and smell the coffee.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"float: right;
