So as a companion to Mini&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/minimsft.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/microsofts-2008-whats-going-well.html\">What&#8217;s going well?<\/a>, MSFTextrememakeover&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/msftextrememakeover.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/will-this-dog-ever-hunt-again.html\">Will this dog ever hunt again<\/a>, Joe Wilcox&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft-watch.com\/content\/corporate\/2008_defundefinedive_unsolicited_advice_for_microsoft.html\">Definitive, unsolicited advice<\/a>, Slashdot&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/linux.slashdot.org\/article.pl?sid=08\/01\/01\/1322244\">Microsoft&#8217;s biggest threat<\/a>, and no doubt a jillion other posts, I figured I&#8217;d start up a thread specifically on the topic of opportunities for Microsoft in the upcoming year.<\/p>\n<p>To kick things off, I&#8217;ve highlighted a few I think are particularly compelling: put the user truly in control of their information, make Live the best front end to the network-of-networks, and abandon DRM &#8212; it&#8217;s too late for that to help Vista, but think about the effects on Zune and Windows 7.0 &#8220;now DRM-free&#8221;.  Discussion of those is welcome, as are other ideas.
