(DRAFT!!!!)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/p2pt0.wetpaint.com\/page\/Ask+the+President\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3598\/3381627030_96ecc0c911.jpg?v=0\" alt=\"why talk about skittles\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first installment of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theseminal.com\/2009\/03\/22\/lessons-from-skittles-for-poets-and-activists\/\">Lessons from Skittles for poets and activists<\/a> briefly described how Skittles&#8217; Twitter-centric viral marketing campaign caught fire and concluded that one lesson is that activists without a lot of time or money should seriously consider incorporating Twitter in their plans.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s a pretty general conclusion.\u00c2\u00a0 So our next two installments will look at two case-studies in progress.\u00c2\u00a0 You can watch them unfold as they&#8217;re happening, or even better get involved and learn by doing.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend we&#8217;ll cover <em>Ask the President<\/em>, which offers poets and activists a chance to propose and vote on questions for White House press conferences.\u00c2\u00a0 As Ari Melber discussed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/doc\/20090406\/melber\">The People&#8217;s Press Conference<\/a>, Ask the President &#8212; #askpres for short &#8212; will need to create buzz to have a chance at getting their questions asked and answered.\u00c2\u00a0 Activists also need to create buzz to help get their questions voted up.<\/p>\n<p>The following weekend, we&#8217;ll discuss <em><a href=\"http:\/\/gottabook.blogspot.com\/2009\/03\/announcing-30-poets30-days.html\">30 Poets \/ 30 Days<\/a>, <\/em>a project for National Poetry Month in April 1 being organized by my brother, Gregory K of <em>Gottabook<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Three years ago, Greg&#8217;s blog post about &#8220;Fibs&#8221; (Fibonacci Poetry) went viral and got picked up by the mighty <em>Slashdot<\/em> and then the <em>New York Times<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Will lightning strike twice?<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Ask the President<\/h2>\n<p>With a press conference scheduled for tonight at 8 PM Eastern, <em>Ask the President<\/em><em> <\/em>is in high gear: the more buzz today, the more likely it is that one of the questions might be asked.\u00c2\u00a0 So it&#8217;s a great opportunity to follow along and see what Twitter activism looks like.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 A few suggestions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>if you&#8217;re into progressive politics and diversity, follow the <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23p2+%23askpres\">discussions on the #p2 hashtag<\/a> about the project<\/li>\n<li>if you&#8217;re into the Constitution and the rule of law, check out what <a href=\"http:\/\/get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com\/page\/Ask+the+President\">Get FISA Right<\/a> is up to<\/li>\n<li>to see everything that&#8217;s happening on #askpres, use <a href=\"http:\/\/tweetleft.com\/\">TweetLeft<\/a> (you can choose from askpres or a bunch of other tags) or <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23askpres\">twitter search<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don&#8217;t just follow along passively &#8230;
