{"id":412,"date":"2009-03-18T08:32:58","date_gmt":"2009-03-18T15:32:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.talesfromthe.net\/jon\/?p=412"},"modified":"2009-03-18T08:32:58","modified_gmt":"2009-03-18T15:32:58","slug":"how-to-promote-ask-the-president-on-twitter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2024.thenexus.today\/index.php\/2009\/03\/18\/how-to-promote-ask-the-president-on-twitter\/","title":{"rendered":"How to promote &#8220;Ask the President&#8221; on Twitter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/AskThePresident\/status\/1323137566\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3276\/3359772917_9fb946311c.jpg?v=0\" alt=\"Ask the President launches Thursday\" width=\"272\" height=\"141\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.communitycounts.com\/Obama\"><strong>Ask the President<\/strong>&#8216;s site is up and running<\/a>!\u00c2\u00a0 The idea&#8217;s simple: people can submit questions and vote on which ones they&#8217;d like to see answered at a White House press conference.\u00c2\u00a0 Ari Melber&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/doc\/20090406\/melber\">The People&#8217;s Press Conference<\/a> in <em>The Nation <\/em>has details; other partners include the <em>Washington Times <\/em>and <em>Personal Democracy Forum<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>If you think it&#8217;s a good idea, here are a few ways you can hep get the word out on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>1. Tweet about it the site going live &#8212; and include its URL<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 For example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>@AskThePresident is live!\u00c2\u00a0 Could be the biggest thing since sliced bread!!!!!! <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/askpres\">http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/askpres<\/a><strong> <\/strong><em>#askpres<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If this looks like gibberish (my friends often say it looks like I&#8217;m tweeting in tongues), the tinyurl is a short version of the site name, and the #askpres at the end is a hashtag to make it easy to see <a href=\"http:\/\/search.twitter.com\/search?q=%23askpres\">all the tweets about <strong>Ask the President<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Tweet about questions you like &#8212; and include a link.<\/strong> For example:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Mr President, How will you follow through on your promise to help the people of Darfur? <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/askpres\">http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/askpres<\/a> <em>#askthepres<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The easiest way to do this is to click on the <strong>Retweet This<\/strong> button on each question.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a little hard to see &#8212; almost at the bottom of the question, right below the &#8220;share this&#8221; &#8212; but well worth finding.\u00c2\u00a0 It brings up a tab with Twitter&#8217;s hope page, the shortened URL, and the hashtag; you&#8217;ll have to provide the rest of the text.<\/p>\n<p>Also consider including other hashtags you think might be interested: #tcot for conservatives, #topprog for progressives, #gov20 for &#8220;government 2.0&#8221;, #green for sustainability-related questions, and so on.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Recommend @AskThePresident on #followfriday<\/strong>.\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not already participating in #followfriday, it&#8217;s just what it sounds like: every Friday, people on Twitter send tweets suggesting who they think others should follow.*\u00c2\u00a0 Join in!\u00c2\u00a0 For example,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#followfriday: @AskThePresident and #askpres for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The People\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Press Conference\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/span> <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/askpres\">http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/askpres<\/a><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">@BarackObama: please add @AskThePresident to your #followfriday list! #askpres<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>4. When you see others tweeting about #askpres, retweet liberally &#8212; or conservatively, depending on your politics \ud83d\ude42 <\/strong>And if you&#8217;re wirting or blogging about it, make sure to include the #askpres tag when you tweet.<\/p>\n<p>Other suggestions?
