as well as challenges for the anti-FISA forces in general.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first published draft, so it&#8217;s far from final.\u00c2\u00a0 Feedback, suggestions, criticisms, all very welcome!\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/get-fisa-right.wetpaint.com\/thread\/2160637\/Feedback+on+2009+strategy+proposal%3F\">a thread on the wiki here<\/a>; replies to to this post are welcome too.<\/p>\n<p>A quick overview:<\/p>\n<h2><!--more-->Key goals for the year for anti-FISA forces<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Obama living up to his campaign promises: acting against immunity, respecting privacy and the rule of law<\/li>\n<li>Significant change in public opinion to the point where there&#8217;s strong evidence that the vast majority of Americans (60%+) oppose continuing the &#8220;national surveillance state&#8221; approach to providing the illusion of security<\/li>\n<li>Congressional action: repeal of the PATRIOT Act and FISA reform<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Summary of proposed strategy<\/h2>\n<p><strong>January<\/strong>: lay groundwork (communications, reconnect with MyBO, Ideas for Change competiation, SaysMe ad, &#8230;)<\/p>\n<p><strong>January 20-May 1<\/strong> (first 100 days): remain a group of Obama supporters and continue our conversation with him attempting to influence his initial executive actions.\u00c2\u00a0 Key asks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>stay immunity lawsuits until after the Inspectors&#8217; General report in July<\/li>\n<li>comply with FISA and other legislation (including the warrant requirements) and clarify that he will not assert &#8220;Article II&#8221; power<\/li>\n<li>defer bulk surveillance of Americans, even though it has been authorized by the FAA<\/li>\n<li><em>maybe also something about appointments to NSA, CIA, DHS, etc?<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>May\/June<\/strong>: decide on our longer-term organization (partisan or non-partisan?\u00c2\u00a0 merge with an existing organization?\u00c2\u00a0 etc.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>July-end of year<\/strong>: pressure Congress and Obama;
