margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3017\/2919278958_0ffeec3063_m.jpg\" alt=\"voter suppression wiki logo\" width=\"100\" height=\"100\" \/>We&#8217;ve just finished our last minute polishing for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\"><strong>Voter Suppresssion Wiki<\/strong><\/a>, with a redesigned home page, a\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/Voter+Suppression+Documented\">Voter Suppression Documented<\/a> summary with snippets of a dozen different examples, final touches to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/Media+room\">Media Room<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/November+3+media+release\">Prepare for election day<\/a> action alert, and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/Communications+channels\">chat room<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ve continued to get some great press, with Caitlin Johnson&#8217;s <a class=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/us.oneworld.net\/article\/358332-txt-vote-election-protection-goes-high-tech\" target=\"_blank\">Txt the Vote: Election Protection Goes High Tech<\/a> on <em>OneWorld\/Yahoo News! <\/em>featuring one of our members, and Simon Jones&#8217;<a class=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/mediashift\/2008\/11\/citizens-media-use-social-media-to-monitor-election308.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Citizens, Media Use Social Media to Monitor Election<\/a><em> <\/em>giving some great context.<\/p>\n<p>We continue to have successes: flagging a deceptive report falsely claiming that people were arrested, getting our one-page <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/vsw-what-to-do\">What to do if you have problems<\/a> document posted in a library in South Carolina. \u00c2\u00a0 Baratunde&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6v0WonmRpLA\">90-second guide to election day video<\/a> got over 1,000 views after YouTube selected it as a featured video.\u00c2\u00a0 Another wiki member submitted her story to the Huffington Post.\u00c2\u00a0 Multiply this by a few hundred people on our project &#8212; and dozens of other projects in the grassroots election protection and citizen journalism movement &#8212; and it adds up to a big impact.<\/p>\n<p>On election day, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/Incident+Tracker\">Incident Tracker<\/a> will be where the action is on the wiki.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ll be updating it regularly, sifting through the various sources on the web and threads in our discussion forum, and linking to any action alerts.\u00c2\u00a0 Please check it out; and if you see any voter suppression or articles about it, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/Incident+Tracker\/thread\">please let us know about it!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course there are a many other sites around the web that also have great reporting.\u00c2\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a quick roundup of a few other sites.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourvotelive.org\/home.php\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px; float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.866ourvote.org\/assets\/img\/our_vote_live_home_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"76\" \/>Our Vote Live<\/a>, a joint project of the Election Protection Coalition and EFF, features a live feed and queryable interface to the reports that go into the 1-866-OUR-VOTE hotline.\u00c2\u00a0 With over 40,000 reports already, it&#8217;s a rich data source &#8212; for example, here&#8217;s their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourvotelive.org\/map.php?id=39\">Ohio page<\/a>, and the list of the 200 reported incidents so far of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ourvotelive.org\/responses.php?sort=rid&amp;order=desc&amp;filter_subset=epc_intprob&amp;filter_state=0&amp;date=0&amp;id=&amp;keywords=&amp;op=Filter\">voter intimidation<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"float: right; margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px;\" src=\"http:\/\/videothevote.org\/img\/logo_slogan.png\" alt=\"video the vote\" width=\"198\" height=\"43\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/videothevote.org\">Video the Vote<\/a>&#8216;s goal is one of the pioneering citizen journalism election documentation project, and this year they&#8217;ve already had some major stories, including catching election officials admitting calibration problems in West Virginia.\u00c2\u00a0 Since they&#8217;ve been doing this a lot longer than some of the other groups, they&#8217;ve got a lot of experienced people; and since it was founded by people from the Guerilla News Network and Color of Change, they&#8217;re not shy about being explicitly political.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-left: 5px; margin-right: 5px; float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/twittervotereport.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/10\/tvr_125x125_v1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"127\" height=\"127\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/twittervotereport.com\/\">Twitter Vote Report<\/a> continues to get a lot of attention, and with good reason &#8212; Barbara Iverson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poynter.org\/column.asp?id=31&amp;aid=153443\">in <em>Poynter Online<\/em><\/a> and Jill Rosen <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/nation\/politics\/bal-te.to.votertech03nov03,0,5856073.story?track=rss\">in the <em>Baltimore Sun<\/em><\/a> gives some great context.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=96349881\">NPR&#8217;s Election 08 center<\/a> is an example of a site that&#8217;s integrated TVR into their coverage, and several networks are considering taking live feeds.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/twittervotereport.com\/see-it-in-action\/\">New visualizations continue to come online,<\/a> along with code so that you can embed them on your site; one of my favorites is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plodt.com\/votereport\">from Plodt<\/a>, with a chart showing wait times nationally and the top wait times highlighted.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s still an open question just how many participants they&#8217;ll get on election day, and of course we&#8217;re all a little nervous about whether the technology holds together, but if all goes well it could be spectacular.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/twittervotereport.com\/2008\/11\/04\/nathan-heeded-the-call-to-grab-the-data-and-go\/\">Check the blog<\/a> for updates!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.communitychange.org\/images\/cvvrn.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"160\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/communityvaluesvote.blogspot.com\/\">Community Values Vote<\/a>, by contrast, focuses on the narrative, featuring election day news from a coalition of over two hundred grassroots organizations.\u00c2\u00a0 They&#8217;ve got video cameras, photographers, and reporters in the field, and the stories already on their site are great complements to the ones that you see in the mainstream media.<\/p>\n<p>If those sites aren&#8217;t to your taste, there are plenty more; our ongoing list on the Voter Suppression Wiki is now up to at least 20 sites, including big names like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/ELECTION\/2008\/voter.hotline\/\">CNN<\/a> (30,000 calls so far), <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wired.com\/27bstroke6\/2008\/10\/had-problems-vo.html\">Wired<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/videoyourvote\">PBS\/YouTube<\/a> as well as smaller groups like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.votersuppression.net\/page\/http%2F%2Ftheuptake.org\">The Uptake<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/myfairelection.com\/\">My Fair Election<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.workthevotela.org\/\">Work the Vote LA<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Whatever happens, it&#8217;ll be well-documented.\u00c2\u00a0 Election &#8217;08, now playing at an internet site near you.<\/p>\n<p>I probably won&#8217;t have time to blog much on Tuesday &#8230;
